Medina
Material: Atlas & Clay
As with all Atlas & Clay products, Antique Zellige is hand-cut and glazed, carrying forward the centuries-old tradition of Moroccan tile making. Medina, a trendy 1×2″ mosaic, is designed to make a statement and draw attention to any space. No two tiles are exactly alike. The natural imperfections and variations are a reflection of the hand-molding, cutting, and glazing process, giving each piece its own unique character. These one-of-a-kind tiles bring an extravagant, artisanal quality to any space.
Read these notes BEFORE installation
These tiles are made entirely by hand in Morocco and each tile will be different from the next. The following characteristics are not defects, they are inherent in authentic handmade tile from Morocco.
- Chips off the surface or edge of the glaze exposing the clay beneath
- Wide variation in color/shade between tile pieces
- Imperfections or inclusions in the glaze on the tile face
- Dramatic Glaze pooling in areas of a tile
- Lime pops that expose the substrate of the tile
- Dips in the surface of the tile
- Uneven edging of the tile
- Variation in tile size and thickness
Deco-tile will not honor any claims made for the characteristics listed above if claimed as defects.
Tiles should be laid out, blended and approved by the owner or owner’s representative before installation begins. No claims will be accepted after the tile is installed.
Installation Notes
Read these notes BEFORE installation
- Tiles must be pulled from all boxes and blended before installation and approved by the client to ensure best result.
- If installing tiles without grout joints or with 1/16” joints, tiles must be grouted with non-sanded grout to fill any gaps, lippage or small joints that will result from the handmade process. For joints larger than 1/16” sanded grout should be used.
- Grout joints should be sealed after installation.
- Unglazed Terracotta Tiles or any exposed terracotta in glazed tiles should be sealed before grouting.
- For mosaics with concrete backing, apply a thicker coat of thin set to adjust height of each mosaic sheet to decrease lippage. Install mosaics offset and set without a joint, as tight as possible to reduce the appearance of joints between sheets.
- Lime pops in the surface of tile should be filled with grout during the grouting process.
- Tile should not be installed in pools, spas or any surface that is continually exposed to water.
- Tile should not be installed in exterior areas that experience freeze thaw conditions.
